Smaller Projects and Miscellany

Other class projects

Telltale HeartsA project with Justin Downs and James Daher,
Telltale Hearts is a pair of networked heart rate
monitors, each of which transmit the wearer's
heartbeat to the other user, who feels them as
pulses of vibration.

color code interfaceA project with Kate Monahan, Jeff Sable, and Scott
Varland, Color Code is a facelift for the game Mastermind,
combining the traditional game with the generation of
an exquisite corpse. It was designed to be played with a
physical interface, but I added a quick&dirty online interface
so you can check it out.

Make your own Solar SystemMake Your Own Solar System is a rough simulation
of some of the physics of solar system formation,
in which the viewer can watch (and tinker with) some
possible stories of an unfolding universe. It is intended
to be suggestive and playful rather than stricty accurate.
You can play with it here.

you are the universeA project with Shinyoung Park, You are the Universe uses the
movement of a character and of cells inside the character to
express emotions in response to the viewer's distance from
the screen. The character performs simple movements expressing
its current mood, while over time the cells evolve movements
to better express different facets of the character's emotions.

xbee puppet showAn XBee Puppet Show is a brief, tragic story of a day in
the life of a physical computing student. The screen 'puppet'
was controlled (mostly) through foot pressure, and a live
performance was broadcast over XBee radios to a select
audience of people hanging out at school. Videos of the
performance can be seen here and here.

Other Uses for a DDR Pad (no image or links yet) is a suite of mini-games controlled
with a Dance Dance Revolution foot pad. It was a brief exploration into different
kinds of games and game mechanics that could use this interface otherwise
dedicated to a rhythm/dance game.
